About the position

The Circulation Clerk at the Greene County Public Library is responsible for performing various library circulation and clerical tasks while maintaining a high level of customer service. This part-time position involves checking in and out library materials, assisting patrons, and managing circulation-related inquiries. The role requires working under direct supervision, with occasional independent problem-solving, to support the library's mission and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Check out and check in materials using a computerized system.
  • Collect fines and charges for lost items.
  • Enter renewals and reserves for materials.
  • Register borrowers and handle circulation questions from patrons in person or by telephone.
  • Sort materials to be shelved, including book-drop, delivery, and returns.
  • Handle incomplete or damaged items and oversee the circulation hold shelf.
  • Process the Paging List and run Search Ohio and Clear hold-shelf reports.
  • Prepare requested items for Resource Sharing and perform opening and closing procedures.
  • Process new materials, donations, and withdrawn materials.
  • Repair and repackage damaged items and assist patrons in finding books and materials.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and training to maintain knowledge.
  • Keep abreast of information by reading emails and attending staff meetings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • 1 year of customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to provide knowledgeable customer service to assist library patrons.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and read printed and on-screen information.
  • Proven computer skills and ability to input information into an automated system.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some knowledge of library clerical principles, methods, techniques, and procedures.
