About the position

The Cisco Nexus Architect position at the City and County of Denver involves planning, coordinating, and implementing network solutions using Cisco Nexus technologies. The role emphasizes customer service and requires the architect to troubleshoot complex network issues, optimize performance, and ensure security compliance. The position supports a hybrid work model, allowing flexibility in work location while maintaining a strong focus on collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full performance professional information technology work planning and coordinating the installation and configuration of network and operating system hardware and software.
  • Maintain and repair complex problems with system hardware and software.
  • Establish and maintain network performance by building network configurations and connections; troubleshooting network problems.
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
  • Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Report network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; managing projects.
  • Plan and coordinate the setup, installation, and configuration of the operating system (including hardware and software), new software releases, and upgrades.
  • Develop, maintain, and publish complex custom reports.
  • Consult with users to identify new business requirements then evaluate and recommend software and hardware solutions to meet user needs.
  • Act as a liaison between user group and the Technologies division to communicate problems and possible solutions.
  • Write and maintain technical procedures, documentation, operational instructions and/or project or work order status.
  • Participate in all Operations and Maintenance rotational duties, including enterprise monitoring, incident queue manager and afterhours on-call duties approximately every 8 weeks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional information technology experience installing, maintaining, and/or modifying operating system and/or network operating system software and associated hardware.
  • Two years of experience in designing and implementing enterprise level systems and scalable solutions.
  • Certified Expert and/or Professional, Cisco CCIE or CCNP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ServiceNow
  • Basic knowledge of ITIL concepts including Incident Management, Service Requests, Problem Management and Change Management.
