About the position

The IT Engineer role is a critical position within our organization, focusing on the design, deployment, and support of Cisco Wireless Networks. This position is intended for an experienced Cisco Wireless Network Engineer who will work closely with various teams, including infrastructure senior IT engineers, advisors, applications teams, IT field services, project managers, and third-party vendors. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the operational performance of network technologies, document processes, and lead projects effectively. The engineer will be expected to have a deep understanding of physical infrastructure, network, telecom, endpoint, platforms, data center, storage, and security technologies. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for hands-on configuration and implementation of networks as part of enterprise WAN, LAN, and wireless network upgrades across central Ohio. The engineer will utilize tools such as Ekahau for Wi-Fi design and planning, and will also be required to have experience with Cisco ISE for wireless authentication. The position demands a high level of independence, strong client service skills, and the ability to relay technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel. The engineer will also need to demonstrate strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, as well as excellent time management skills to meet project deadlines. This is a contract-to-hire position, meaning that candidates must be prepared to convert to a permanent role without the need for sponsorship or assistance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working in a collaborative environment, managing tasks assigned by management or team leads, and being a team player while also being able to work independently. The role may require travel or onsite presence as needed, and candidates should be prepared to work evenings and weekends during client cutovers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with infrastructure Sr. IT engineers, advisors, applications teams, IT field services, project managers, and 3rd party vendors to plan and oversee the implementation of technologies.
  • Ensure operational performance of network technologies and document processes.
  • Lead projects related to Cisco Wireless Network design, deployment, and support.
  • Perform hands-on configuration and implementation of networks as part of enterprise WAN, LAN, and wireless network upgrades.
  • Utilize Ekahau tool for Wi-Fi design, planning, and site surveys.
  • Implement Cisco ISE for wireless authentication and support.
  • Analyze and interpret business drivers to support the program and organization.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Manage tasks assigned by management or team leads and demonstrate strong client service skills.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with Cisco Wireless Design, deployment, and support.
  • Proficiency with Cisco network switching and routing.
  • Experience with network monitoring, management, and troubleshooting tools and techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration and implementation of networks.
  • Experience with Ekahau tool for Wi-Fi design and planning.
  • Experience with Cisco ISE for wireless authentication.
  • 5 years of data networking experience including router/switching/WAN rack & stack and administration.
  • Strong analytical data-driven approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Major vendor certification (Cisco CCNP, CCIE) or equivalent experience.
