About the position

The City of Jacksonville is seeking a Professional Engineer to lead the Engineering Division, which is responsible for managing and overseeing the planning, design, and construction of city capital and maintenance projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in civil engineering and administrative roles, ensuring the successful completion of public infrastructure projects and compliance with city standards.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, directing, coordinating and supervising the operations, services and staff of the Engineering Division.
  • Overseeing the planning, design, construction and inspection of public facilities and projects.
  • Managing and overseeing the Engineering Division providing engineering designs, specifications, technical studies and reports, cost estimates, and other engineering needs.
  • Conducting engineering evaluations and providing recommendations for the repair or operations of City infrastructure systems.
  • Assisting with the selection, negotiation and progress evaluation of professional consultants and engineering services.
  • Conducting performance appraisals of Engineering Division staff.
  • Analyzing construction cost estimates, proposals, quotations and bids for City projects.
  • Overseeing the review, approval and inspection of privately-funded City infrastructure improvements installed by private developers.
  • Providing technical advice to the City Manager and City Council in the design of major infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering.
  • More than 10 years of professional experience in municipal engineering.
  • 2 to 5 years of administrative experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling and inflow/infiltration analyses.
  • Familiarity with City and State requirements for water and sewer extensions, stormwater facilities, and erosion control BMPs.
