About the position

The City Inspector II position involves processing, coordinating, and conducting inspections of private and public projects within the public Right-of-Way to ensure compliance with City standards and specifications. This role is crucial for upholding regulatory standards and enhancing the quality of life for residents. The inspector will work under the supervision of the Construction Inspection Supervisor and will be part of a dedicated team responsible for various construction inspections, including capital projects and developments.

Responsibilities

  • Receives permit applications, calculates permit fees, and issues permits.
  • Uses CityWorks to track permits and their status.
  • Performs complete and professional construction inspection duties to determine acceptance and compliance with City standards and specifications.
  • Reads, interprets, and enforces applicable transportation and utility construction standards, construction drawings, working plans, and maps.
  • Provides technical information to contractors and the general public.
  • Produces daily logs for assigned projects to effectively document construction activities.
  • Interacts with developers, contractors, and citizens to address questions or concerns.
  • Enforces Municipal Ordinances regulating construction, safety, and site development.
  • Provides interpretation and explanations of adopted codes and ordinances to contractors and the public.
  • Meets and confers with developers, consultants, contractors, and the public regarding engineering and construction requirements.
  • Minor design, drafting, and sketching of details for construction/standards clarification.
  • Represents Public Works and Utilities in meetings with contractors, developers, and the public.
  • Provides construction management services and inspection for city capital projects.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Five (5) years of experience performing construction inspections.
  • Current certification in LabCAT Level A.
  • Current certification in ACI Field Concrete Testing.
  • Current certification in Erosion Control (NPDES and State of Colorado).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to express oneself clearly both verbally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Experience with CityWorks or other asset management systems.
  • Completion of Traffic Control Technician (TCT) or Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification.
