About the position

The City of Portland is seeking an Airport Operations Coordinator to join our team under the direction of the Airport Operations Manager. This position is critical to the centralized security and communications oversight of the airport, operating within the 24/7/365 Airport Operations Center. The Operations Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring various systems including surveillance video, access control, alarms, mass notification systems, and weather-related equipment, as well as managing communications through phones and radios. This role is essential in ensuring the safety and security of the airport environment and providing exceptional customer service to all stakeholders, including airport tenants, the general public, and various governmental agencies. In addition to monitoring and communication duties, the Airport Operations Coordinator will assist with terminal inspections, TSA and FAA inspections, and aircraft gate assignments. The role also involves managing irregular operations, conducting tests and audits, and supporting airport management on safety, security, and customer service matters. As "Trusted Agents," the coordinators will be responsible for viewing, recording, and processing background checks for airport badge holders. This position requires flexibility, as coordinators will work holidays, rotating shifts, and may be subject to mandatory overtime call-ins. Candidates must possess a working knowledge of FAA and TSA rules and regulations, as well as proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Workspace. Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential, along with a commitment to providing exceptional customer service. The role requires candidates to demonstrate proficiency in airfield driving and FAA Part 139 inspection criteria after a six-month probationary period. Additionally, candidates must pass all local and federal background investigations, including TSA regulations, and possess a valid U.S. State Driver's License or the ability to obtain one upon employment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor surveillance video, access control, alarms, and mass notification systems.

  • Assist with terminal inspections and TSA & FAA inspections.
  • Coordinate aircraft gate assignments and manage irregular operations.
  • Conduct tests and audits related to airport operations.
  • Support airport management on safety, security, and customer service matters.
  • Process background checks for airport badge holders as a 'Trusted Agent'.
  • Work rotating shifts, including holidays, and respond to mandatory overtime call-ins.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of FAA and TSA rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in airfield driving and FAA Part 139 inspection criteria after a six-month probationary period.
  • Ability to pass all local and federal background investigations, specifically TSA Regulation 49 CFR, Part 1542.
  • Possess a valid U.S. State Driver's License or the ability to obtain one subject to employment.

Nice-to-haves
