About the position

The Cityworks Application Developer position is a full-time role open exclusively to current WSSC Water employees. This non-management position involves developing, customizing, and maintaining the Cityworks enterprise asset management software. The developer will support the software throughout its lifecycle, ensuring it meets business and technical requirements while providing end-user support and application enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements and code according to technical designs in collaboration with business stakeholders and analysts.
  • Create and update technical design documentation.
  • Resolve defects during the design and development phases across multiple teams.
  • Assist in diagnosing and correcting production issues.
  • Create Proof of Concepts (POCs) and present them to team members and stakeholders.
  • Support testing activities including system testing and user acceptance testing.
  • Assist with deployment activities into development, testing, and production environments.
  • Attend Functional Design Workshops and requirements meetings as needed.
  • Comply with development standards and release management guidelines.
  • Maintain awareness of application use within the utilities space.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or a high school diploma with 4+ years of hands-on experience in design/development.
  • Understanding of relational database platforms (Oracle or SQL Server).
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) within waterfall and agile frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in design/development.
  • Demonstrated expertise through relevant internships, coursework, or work projects.
  • Experience with SQL programming languages.
  • Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
  • Ability to prioritize activities and complete them within resource constraints.
  • Ability to conduct application demonstrations for the end-user community.
  • Experience working with water/wastewater utility operational systems.
