About the position

The Cityworks Application Developer is an entry-level position focused on developing, customizing, and maintaining the Cityworks enterprise asset management software for WSSC Water. This role involves supporting and configuring the software to meet business and technical requirements, providing life-cycle support, and assisting in all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC). The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and includes responsibilities such as application maintenance, end-user support, and participation in testing and deployment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, customizing, and maintaining the Cityworks software.
  • Support and configure the Cityworks product to meet business and technical requirements.
  • Provide life-cycle support for Cityworks including application life-cycle planning and maintenance.
  • Respond to ad-hoc end-user requests for application enhancements and custom programs.
  • Create and update technical design documentation.
  • Resolve defects during the design and development phases.
  • Assist with diagnosing and correcting production issues.
  • Create Proof of Concepts (POCs) and present to team members and stakeholders.
  • Provide support for testing activities including system testing and user acceptance testing.
  • Support deployment activities into development, testing, and production environments.
  • Attend Functional Design Workshops and requirements meetings as needed.
  • Comply with development standards and release management guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or a high school diploma with 4+ years of hands-on experience in design/development.
  • Understanding of relational database platforms (Oracle or SQL Server).
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) within waterfall and agile frameworks.
  • Knowledge of requirements gathering.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years hands-on experience in design/development.
  • Demonstrated expertise gained through relevant internships, coursework, or work projects.
  • Experience with SQL programming languages.
  • Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
  • Ability to prioritize different activities and complete within resource constraints.
  • Ability to conduct application demonstrations for the end-user community.
  • Experience working with water/wastewater utility operational systems.
