About the position

The Civil/Agricultural Engineer position at the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service involves providing technical guidance in the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of soil and water conservation practices. The role is crucial for ensuring effective engineering practices are implemented in conservation efforts across Colorado, specifically in Denver and Fort Collins. The incumbent will coordinate engineering projects, conduct field investigations, and ensure compliance with engineering standards and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and supervises the planning, design, and construction of engineering practices needing engineering guidance.
  • Directs the type, scope, and intensity of field investigations and surveys needed for practice implementation.
  • Develops workload analysis, priorities, and scheduling recommendations identified by the strategic plan for the geographical location assigned.
  • Directs and performs site investigations and feasibility studies, field checks, and field construction checks for conservation practice installations.
  • Makes periodic quality reviews of notes, drawings, designs, and installations for compliance with policies, procedures, and/or specifications.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • Specialized experience at the GS-11 level or higher in Federal service or comparable experience.
  • Professional registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with soil and water conservation practices.
  • Knowledge of federal engineering policies and procedures.
  • Ability to conduct engineering investigations and studies.
