About the position

Michael Baker International is seeking a Civil Associate to join the Transportation Planning team in the Carlsbad, CA office. This position is integral to the Transportation Planning Department, which is involved in all aspects of transportation planning, conceptual design, and plan preparation for various Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering projects. The Civil Associate will be responsible for conducting field work, preparing operational analyses, and assisting with active transportation tasks. Additionally, the role involves community outreach events and coordination, preparing maps, graphics, and conceptual designs for transportation projects, as well as assisting with Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) analysis and transportation demand management plans. The responsibilities extend to assisting in the preparation of Traffic Impact Analysis, shared parking and parking management studies, trip generation studies, sight distance calculations, and traffic calming concepts. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university and possess 0-2 years of related experience. A completed coursework in Traffic Engineering or Transportation Planning is essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. A reliable method of transportation for project site visits and client meetings is also required. Responsibilities

  • Conduct field work for transportation planning projects.
  • Prepare operational analyses for traffic engineering projects.
  • Assist with active transportation tasks and community outreach events.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 0-2 years related experience in transportation planning or traffic engineering.
  • Completed coursework in Traffic Engineering or Transportation Planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Reliable method of transportation for project site visits and client meetings.

Nice-to-haves

  • E.I.T. certificate.
  • Experience with Synchro, SIDRA, or Highway Capacity Software.
