About the position

The City of Arvada is seeking a Civil CAD Drafter & Land Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for the CAD drafting of engineering and land development drawings for civil and survey design, including utility and development projects from initial design through final construction. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that all drafting work meets the requirements of the City for recording and use, contributing to the overall development and maintenance of our community's infrastructure. In this role, you will draft land development projects for verification during the review of subdivision plats, real property descriptions, vesting deeds, and title documents. You will be involved in drafting site layouts, grading plans, profiles, roadway and construction details across a wide variety of civil engineering, utility, and maintenance projects. Additionally, you will draft subdivision plats, legal descriptions, easements, and other land records to ensure compliance with the City Land Development Code. The position requires proficiency in utilizing data from various sources, including field observations, engineering notes, survey data, and GIS data, to create accurate and thorough drawings. You will also be expected to recommend and support the implementation of AutoCAD software upgrades and prepare graphics, maps, charts, and exhibits in response to requests from different divisions within the city. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of civil engineering drafting concepts, land surveying principles, and the ability to integrate field observations into civil design drawings. You will need to demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization skills, and the ability to work independently on multiple projects while maintaining high productivity. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for this role, as you will be required to document and communicate your work effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Draft land development projects for verification during the review of subdivision plats, real property descriptions, vesting deeds, and title documents.
  • Draft site layout, grading, plan & profile, roadway and construction details across a wide variety of civil engineering, utility, and maintenance projects.
  • Draft subdivision plats, real property legal descriptions, vesting deeds, easements, title, and other land records and documents submitted for development within the City.
  • Learn to become proficient at assigning addresses to properties within the city and serve as the backup addressor to the Development Review Land Technician.
  • Utilize data from numerous sources including field observations, rough sketches, engineering notes, survey data, maps of existing utilities, as-built construction drawings, GIS data, plats, and legal descriptions to draft complete and accurate drawings.
  • Use knowledge of civil engineering drafting concepts and practices to draft plan, profile, cross sections, topographic surfaces, earthwork calculations, and quantities for various projects.
  • Import and work with GIS and aerial data on a regular basis within civil engineering drawings.
  • Configure and use higher-level commands, routines, tools, and automated procedures in AutoCAD.
  • Prepare graphics, maps, charts, drawings, displays, exhibits, etc. in response to special requests from various divisions throughout the city.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a relevant field.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible and relevant experience working in AutoCAD Civil 3D in a civil engineering and/or land surveying environment.
  • Solid understanding of GIS systems, principles, and practices.
  • Strong proficiency in using AutoCAD Civil 3D for drafting.
  • Solid understanding of standard civil engineering drafting principles and land surveying practices.
  • Ability to integrate field observations into civil design drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication and documentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with municipal public works infrastructure projects.
