About the position

The Civil/Construction/Environmental/Geo/Structural Engineering Student Worker position at the State of Minnesota offers undergraduate students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various engineering fields within the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). This part-time, temporary role involves assisting engineering offices with pre-engineering work, providing valuable support in areas such as construction, design, project management, and environmental stewardship. Students will work under the guidance of supervisors and are expected to contribute to projects while developing their professional skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering offices with pre-engineering work as assigned by the hiring supervisor.
  • Gain hands-on experience in transportation-related projects.
  • Support various engineering functions including construction, design, project management, and environmental stewardship.
  • Perform tasks related to bridge maintenance, traffic management, and materials lab work.

Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Construction, Environmental, Geo, or Structural Engineering.
  • Must be enrolled in two or more classes per semester/quarter.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of junior year preferred, but sophomores may also apply.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
