About the position

At IMEG, one of the largest design consulting firms in the U.S., we are excited to offer a career opportunity for a Civil Engineering Graduate - Designer 1 in our Manassas, VA office. This position is designed for recent graduates who are eager to apply their knowledge in a practical setting while contributing to various engineering projects. As a Designer 1, you will work closely with Senior Project Engineers and Project Managers, assisting them in detailed engineering analysis and project execution. Your responsibilities will include preparing reports, permit applications, and construction plans, with a focus on areas such as traffic, municipal, and transportation engineering. In this role, you will perform essential calculations related to hydraulic systems, traffic projections, and site earthwork. You will also engage in tasks such as pipe sizing, channel hydraulics, and traffic signal design. The position requires a solid understanding of materials and methods used in construction, as well as the ability to interpret state and local design criteria to meet project needs. Regular collaboration with peers and supervisors will ensure that your work meets the high standards expected at IMEG, and you will have the opportunity to produce high-quality construction documents. Responsibilities

  • Perform basic calculations based on assignment, including hydraulic calculations, traffic projections, and site earthwork calculations.
  • Conduct pipe sizing and loading calculations.
  • Analyze channel and culvert hydraulics.
  • Utilize highway capacity software for traffic impact analysis.
  • Design flexible and rigid pavement structures.
  • Create geometric pavement and site circulation designs.
  • Prepare roadway plan/profile design drawings.
  • Execute site grading and earthwork computations.
  • Design traffic signals and understand materials and methods relevant to projects.
  • Interpret state and local design criteria and apply them to specific project needs.
  • Produce high-quality construction documents and have work assignments checked by peers or supervisors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Must have passed the fundamental portion of the professional engineering licensing exam or be actively pursuing a passing score.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans and drawings.
  • Familiarity with materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs and AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written forms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions quickly is preferred.
  • Prior direct experience in civil engineering projects is preferred but not required for this entry-level position.
