As a Civil Engineering Graduate - Designer 1 at IMEG, you will embark on an exciting career path within one of the largest design consulting firms in the U.S. This position is designed for new graduates who are eager to learn and grow in the field of civil engineering. You will work closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants, providing engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Your role will involve assisting in engineering analysis, design, field inspections, writing reports, preparing permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs. In this position, you will be expected to work within the project's monetary budget and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. You will perform basic calculations, assist in designing water and sewer systems, and contribute to grading and stormwater designs for various site plans. Building and maintaining client relationships through effective communication will be a key aspect of your role, as will participating in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines. You will also engage in quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs meet IMEG's quality standards and industry requirements. Responsibilities

  • Perform basic calculations based on assignment, including hydraulic calculations, traffic projections, and site earthwork balancing.
  • Assist in designing water and sewer systems for smaller private and larger municipal systems.
  • Assist with grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans.
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively.
  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects; assist in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Assist with documenting design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress.
  • Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance in all aspects of engineering work and interpret state and local design criteria to apply it to specific project needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Basic skills or knowledge with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and the ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions quickly.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) License preferred.
