About the position

At IMEG, one of the largest design consulting firms in the U.S., we are excited to offer a position for a Civil Engineering Graduate - Designer 1 in our Greenwood Village office, starting in May 2025. This role is designed for new graduates who are eager to kickstart their careers in civil engineering. As a Designer 1, you will work closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants, providing engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in engineering analysis, design, field inspections, writing reports, preparing permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs. This position will require you to work within the project's monetary budget and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. In this role, you will perform basic calculations such as hydraulic calculations, traffic projections, and earthwork balancing. You will assist in designing water and sewer systems for both private and municipal projects, as well as grading and stormwater designs for various site plans. Effective communication with clients to understand their needs and gather project requirements will be essential, as will building and maintaining client relationships through professional interactions. You will also support project planning and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives, document design decisions, and monitor project design progress. As part of your development, you will analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions while collaborating with senior engineers. Participation in IMEG's quality control processes will ensure that all engineering designs meet our quality standards and client requirements. Staying updated with industry trends and best practices in civil engineering will be part of your responsibilities, as will prioritizing safety and regulatory compliance in all engineering work. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals, contributing to a culture of sustainability and innovation within IMEG.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic calculations based on assignment, including hydraulic calculations, traffic projections, and earthwork balancing.
  • Assist in designing water and sewer systems for smaller private and larger municipal systems.
  • Assist with grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans.
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively.
  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects; assist in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Assist with documenting design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress.
  • Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers to develop practical solutions.
  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance in all aspects of engineering work and interpret state and local design criteria for specific project needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Basic skills or knowledge with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and the ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions quickly.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) License preferred.
