About the position

The successful individual will be working on commercial and multifamily residential projects, serving as a member of a design team, and assisting in coordinating site-civil designs to meet project objectives, schedules, and budgets, while working directly under licensed Engineers. This role involves performing engineering tasks in the site/civil engineering field through the development of a working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards, and processes. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while being flexible and able to adapt to a changing environment. Key responsibilities include performing site visits, investigation, data collecting, reviewing and interpreting available site plans, survey mapping, and reviewing agency regulations. The individual will assist project managers and engineers with the design of grading, earthwork analysis, and stormwater management designs. A strong understanding of site civil design, permitting, and construction plan preparation is essential, along with proficiency in using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D to create design plans and details. The role also requires preparing cost estimates and specifications based on design drawings, as well as the preparation of written correspondence including proposals, Site Investigation Reports, Grading and Drainage Reports, paving assessments, and other required reports. The successful applicant must demonstrate a willingness to expand their knowledge base via in-house training and/or self-training. Working within a design team to develop site plans using AutoCAD, including grading, green infrastructure, trail/pedestrian facilities, erosion & sediment control plans and details, utility distribution systems, potable water system design, sanitary sewer design, stormwater management system design, and associated calculations is also a key aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret available site plans and survey mapping.
  • Assist project managers/engineers with grading, earthwork analysis, and stormwater management designs.
  • Prepare cost estimates and specifications based on design drawings.
  • Prepare written correspondence including proposals and various reports.
  • Expand knowledge base through in-house training and self-training.
  • Develop site plans using AutoCAD, including grading and green infrastructure designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college.
  • 5-10 years of experience in civil engineering.
  • EIT or PE License preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of Civil Engineering as it pertains to Land Development, particularly stormwater management and grading.
  • Knowledge of local city, county, and state land use processes and regulations in New York or New Jersey.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for site layout design.
  • Strong technical skills in stormwater management, hydraulics, and hydrological analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydrologic or hydraulic software (HydraFlow, HydroCAD, StormCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or similar).
