About the position

The Civil Design Intern at Kiewit Power Engineering is responsible for applying engineering drafting principles to assist in the development of drawings and models under close guidance. This role involves collaboration with design team members to ensure project information is accurately exchanged and utilized for design and development tasks. The intern will engage in various design functions, contributing to the overall success of engineering projects in the power sector.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the Operations Drafting/Design Standards Manual for tasks.
  • Implements Department Quality Standards and Procedures for assignments.
  • Reports project progression updates to the Lead Designer.
  • Learns applicable engineering national and local codes.
  • Participates in weekly project meetings as required.
  • Assists project team members in job-related activities.
  • Checks design for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements.
  • Develops 3D models using drawings and sketches.
  • Creates plan drawings and details.
  • Files master sets and original drawings in a timely manner.
  • Completes as-builts using RFIs, ECNs, and red-marked drawings.
  • Creates guidelines, checklists, or other knowledge-based documents as assigned.
  • Provides lessons learned throughout the project using the Lessons Learned Database.
  • Gathers information needed to develop drawings.
  • Resolves checked drawings and understands comments made.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Aided Design & Drafting Technology or related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with team members and disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret multi-discipline engineering and vendor documents.
  • Proficient in computer-aided drafting programs (MicroStation, AutoCAD, GeoPak, NavisWorks).
  • Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems and spreadsheet/database applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with field measurements and assisting construction personnel.
  • Familiarity with Kiewit Power Engineers drawings and vendor drawings.
