About the position

The Civil Engineer 2 - Program Development role involves leading the development of key planning documents such as the county's 6-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the ADA Transition plan. The position requires collaboration with various agencies to address transportation issues and represent Pierce County on regional committees. The engineer will manage state and federal transportation grant projects and work with multiple departments to ensure effective project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of the county's Safe Routes to School plan.
• Review comprehensive engineering plans, reports, and studies, translating them into funding applications and documentation.
• Coordinate with teams within the division and county to meet schedules and funding requirements.
• Prepare scopes, cost estimates, specifications, and related documents for capital improvement projects.
• Establish and maintain eligibility for system improvement and program development grants with federal and state agencies.
• Provide leadership and direction to professional and technical staff in maintaining a major engineering program.
• Prepare engineering plans, reports, or studies for capital improvement projects or operational concerns.

Requirements

• Registration as an Engineer-in-Training.
• Seven years of progressively responsible experience related to the position.
• Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited program in civil engineering or a closely related field (may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis, up to four years).
• Ability to authorize and complete a background check.
