About the position

As a Civil Engineer 3 specializing in water projects at Black & Veatch, you will play a crucial role in the design, construction, and project management of a diverse range of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects. This position emphasizes the delivery of projects, where you will lead significant portions of various facilities throughout the design, construction, and startup phases. Your hands-on involvement will include developing reports and technical memos, completing studies, and preparing detailed designs and specifications. You will also collaborate with team members to complete cost estimates and prepare contract documents, ensuring that all project needs and requirements are met according to client specifications. In addition to technical work, you will participate in scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration for infrastructure projects. This role also involves business development activities, including the preparation of proposals. As part of the BV Operations team, you will align your skills with projects that support key market sectors such as Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. You will engage in exciting projects globally, from small community improvements to large-scale mega projects, contributing to infrastructure growth and development while focusing on your individual career development. Your responsibilities will include performing project designs from the conceptual phase through to completion, assisting in day-to-day technical work, and utilizing your knowledge of civil engineering concepts, practices, codes, and procedures. You will prepare design reports, conduct complex research, and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection. You will also manage data for engineering work, prepare engineering calculations, and ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Additionally, you will coordinate with other team members and disciplines, actively seek to understand client interests, and may provide support for business development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design of projects from the conceptual and bid phase through design completion for project needs and requirements set by project managers.
  • Assist in the day-to-day process technical work and project execution.
  • Utilize knowledge of regularly used civil concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the water engineering industry.
  • Prepare design reports to document the design process.
  • Apply knowledge to complex projects, finding and developing non-standard design solutions to better serve client project specifications.
  • Prepare a variety of moderately complex engineering deliverables and perform complex research for equipment and materials selection.
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work and prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements, recognizing, defining, and resolving problems within assigned areas.
  • Assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal/external team members on less complex projects.
  • Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of the work.
  • Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and communication with project leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years related work experience in civil engineering, particularly in water and wastewater design.
  • Active Professional Engineer License or in active pursuit of registration.
