About the position

The Civil Engineer 4 position at Black & Veatch focuses on large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The role involves leading significant portions of project design and construction, ensuring effective communication with clients and team members, and contributing to business development efforts. The engineer will be responsible for technical deliverables, project management, and mentoring less experienced engineers, all while working in a hybrid environment that promotes work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design of projects from the conceptual and bid phase through design completion for project needs and requirements set by project managers.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in managing sub-consultants.
  • Interface directly with the client or sub-consultants under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
  • Support business development through writing technical approaches, scopes of work, and presentations to clients.
  • Utilize knowledge of civil concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the water engineering industry.
  • Apply knowledge to complex projects and develop non-standard design solutions to meet client specifications.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines and project teams.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables and perform engineering calculations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Professional engineering registration is preferred or in active pursuit.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensed PE or ability and interest to obtain PE and/or be in active pursuit of registration.
  • Thorough understanding of water and wastewater design (i.e., Infrastructure, Conveyance, Pump Stations/Lift Stations).
  • Ability and motivation to lead portions of complex projects with guidance and mentorship.
