This position is located in a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office in the State of Idaho. The incumbent is responsible for engineering aspects of natural resources conservation practices. This role supports NRCS mission results and program delivery by providing technical guidance and training to NRCS staff and others, managing engineering workloads, and overseeing production work across the planning, design, and construction phases of a wide range of projects. The engineer will be involved in addressing resource concerns related to livestock water, irrigation water, wetlands, lakes, streams, agricultural waste, soil erosion, and flood prevention. The job entails planning, designing, and managing the construction of engineering projects. The incumbent will complete designs that may include engineering design analyses such as hydrological, hydraulic, structural, soil/water/plant relationships, and geotechnical analysis. They will also direct and conduct calculations of earthwork, concrete, steel, water control structures, and other materials, preparing construction estimates and bills of materials. Quality assurance reviews of planned, designed, and constructed engineering projects will be coordinated and conducted by the incumbent. Collaboration in a team setting with internal and external partners to plan and implement conservation projects is also a key aspect of this role.
