About the position

The Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified Civil Engineer specializing in bridge design, site selection, construction, and maintenance strategies. This role involves applying engineering principles to prepare project quantities and cost estimates, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and standards while mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering judgment and design principles for bridge projects.
• Utilize engineering software for stress analyses and structural design.
• Calculate quantities of materials for proposed bridges and rehabilitation projects.
• Develop design plans using CADD and BRADD systems.
• Review designs, plans, and specifications, and inspect bridges for rehabilitation.
• Evaluate project site conditions and conduct field measurements.
• Organize and schedule work activities to meet project deadlines.
• Mentor junior team members in design skills and time management.
• Prepare Hydrology and Hydraulics reports and permit application packages.
• Attend meetings and field visits on behalf of the supervisor.

Requirements

• Five years of civil engineering experience in bridge design or related specialty.
• Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline, or equivalent experience and education.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with project management procedures as outlined in Publication 93.
• Familiarity with public involvement processes in project development.
