About the position

The Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified Civil Engineer specializing in bridge design, site selection, construction, and maintenance strategies. This role involves applying engineering principles to prepare project quantities and cost estimates, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and standards.

Responsibilities

• Apply sound engineering judgment in bridge design and maintenance.
• Utilize engineering systems and software for stress analyses and structural design.
• Determine placement of structural steel and culverts, and calculate quantities for proposed bridges.
• Employ CADD and BRADD systems to develop design plans for bridge projects.
• Review in-house designs and inspect bridges for rehabilitation projects.
• Evaluate project site conditions and conduct field measurements for structural repairs.
• Organize and schedule work activities to meet project deadlines.
• Mentor junior team members to enhance their design skills.
• Prepare Hydrology and Hydraulics reports and permit application packages.

Requirements

• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty.
• Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with project management procedures as outlined in Publication 93.
• Familiarity with public involvement processes in project development.
