About the position

The Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified Civil Engineer specializing in bridge design and construction. The engineer will also mentor junior team members and manage project timelines effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles to bridge design, site selection, and maintenance strategies.
  • Prepare project quantities and cost estimates for bridge projects.
  • Utilize engineering software for stress analyses and structural design.
  • Determine placement of structural steel and culverts for proposed bridges.
  • Calculate quantities of steel and concrete for bridge construction.
  • Conduct analysis and design work for rehabilitation of existing structures.
  • Develop design plans using CADD and BRADD systems.
  • Review in-house designs, plans, and specifications for compliance.
  • Inspect bridges to assess rehabilitation project scopes.
  • Evaluate project site conditions and conduct field measurements.
  • Organize and schedule work activities to meet project deadlines.
  • Mentor junior team members in design skills and time management.
  • Prepare Hydrology and Hydraulics reports and permit application packages.

Requirements

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate.
  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program.
  • Four years of civil engineering experience and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a related discipline.
  • One year of civil engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project management procedures as outlined in Publication 93.
  • Familiarity with public involvement processes in project development.
