About the position

As a Civil/Construction Engineer Intern for Holcim, you will be part of a transformative journey aimed at building progress for people and the planet. This 10-week paid internship, starting on May 27th, 2025, is designed for students who are passionate about sustainability and eager to learn in a high-performance culture. You will be based at our Greenbelt, MD regional headquarters, with opportunities to travel to various local sites throughout the program. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in the asphalt and contracting sector, immersing yourself in operational procedures, production activities, and product knowledge at our asphalt sites. You will collect and analyze data to identify process correlations and contribute to ongoing projects. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the planning, designing, and execution of asphalt and contracting projects, preparing cost estimates, budgets, and schedules, and conducting testing and analysis of construction materials to ensure quality and durability. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with engineers, project managers, and contractors to coordinate project activities and address on-site issues. You will also assist in implementing and monitoring safety protocols to ensure compliance with Holcim standards. At the end of your internship, you will have the opportunity to present your learnings and contributions to our executive leadership team, showcasing your growth and the skills you have developed during your time with us.

Responsibilities

  • Dive into operational procedures, production/maintenance activities, and product knowledge at asphalt sites.
  • Collect and analyze data, identify process correlations, and contribute to ongoing projects.
  • Assist in planning, designing, and executing asphalt and contracting projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for asphalt paving and contracting projects.
  • Conduct testing and analysis of asphalt and other construction materials to ensure quality and durability.
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and contractors to coordinate project activities and address on-site issues.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with Holcim standards.
  • Utilize a range of skills and knowledge in day-to-day operations, working collaboratively to achieve team and company goals.
  • Present learnings and contributions to the executive leadership team at the end of the internship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong academic performance with a solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • Geographic flexibility to work at various sites.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • High energy and a proactive approach to tackling new challenges.
  • A team player who can collaborate across different levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field, gaining hands-on experience and firsthand knowledge of business operations.
