About the position

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a motivated and driven Civil Engineer - Designer - Engineer in Training to join our team in Durham, NC. As a well-established professional services firm recognized as one of the best places to work in Georgia and South Carolina, we provide a range of consulting services including Civil, Environmental, Structural, and Marine Engineering, Land Surveying, Land Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geographic Information Systems, and Construction Administration. In this role, civil designers will be responsible for preparing site development construction drawings and engineering design considerations for water, sewer, and storm drainage infrastructure. This includes managing permit applications associated with residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Regular client interaction is a key component of this position, necessitating excellent communication skills to effectively convey project details and requirements. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience designing land development projects using Civil 3D software applications. A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required, along with EIT Certification or the ability to obtain it within 6 months. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D software is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The position requires a regular work schedule from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Friday. Candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to multi-task, prioritize workflow, and complete tasks efficiently. A strong client service orientation, self-starter mentality, and teamwork skills are crucial for success in this role. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent problem-solving and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare site development construction drawings for various projects.
• Design engineering considerations for water, sewer, and storm drainage infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 3+ years of experience designing land development projects using Civil 3D software applications.
• EIT Certification or the ability to receive EIT Certification within 6 months.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work a regular schedule of 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM Mon-Thurs and 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM Fri.
• Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize workflow effectively.
• Strong client service orientation and teamwork skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
