About the position

AKS Engineering & Forestry (AKS) is seeking a civil engineer-in-training to join our team in Vancouver, Washington. This position is ideal for candidates with 2 to 5 years of design experience and an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. The successful candidate will work closely with our principals and multidisciplinary task leads on a variety of projects, including private site development and public works. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for providing design engineering for a range of projects, including residential, industrial, commercial, educational, recreational, transportation, and public works. You will collaborate with a Project Manager and perform tasks such as street and utility design, hydrology and hydraulic calculations, and Civil 3D drafting. Your ability to communicate effectively with planning and engineering staff will be crucial in minimizing future changes and misunderstandings. Additionally, you will coordinate with in-house disciplines and outside subconsultants, prepare stormwater management designs and reports, and compile submittal packages for land use applications and construction plans. AKS values professional licensure and encourages employees to pursue further education and training in engineering and surveying. Responsibilities

  • Perform street and utility design per county/city standards and conditions of approval.
  • Maintain good communication with planning/engineering staff of the jurisdiction to minimize future changes and misunderstandings.
  • Perform hydrology/hydraulic calculations for designing stormwater management systems.
  • Prepare stormwater run-off calculations, designs, and reports.
  • Coordinate with in-house disciplines and outside subconsultants.
  • Conduct Civil 3D drafting including importing points, line work/drafting, generating and modifying horizontal and vertical alignments, grading, and performing earthwork calculations.
  • Generate and compile submittal packages for land use applications, construction plans, survey records, etc.
  • Complete projects and special assignments as requested.
  • Drive a company-owned vehicle as needed.
  • Work overtime as required.

Requirements

  • Approximately 2 to 5 years of design experience with some project management responsibilities.
  • BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent (required).
  • Engineer in Training certification and working toward obtaining PE.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented.
  • Intermediate skills in Civil 3D.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work quickly, manage multiple and conflicting deadlines, and establish priorities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Personal responsibility for completing quality work within budgets and timelines.
  • Possess solid time management and follow-through skills.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Valid US Driver's License.
