About the position

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is seeking a dedicated and qualified Civil Engineer (General) to join the Bureau of Engineering. This permanent, full-time position is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about protecting, conserving, and enhancing the Commonwealth's aquatic resources while providing fishing and boating opportunities to the public. The role involves a variety of engineering duties related to the location, design, and construction of various projects including fish culture stations, roads, bridges, buildings, water or sewage treatment facilities, dams, access areas, and recreational structures. In this position, you will independently conduct preliminary engineering studies, perform location investigations, prepare plans and specifications, apply for necessary permits, and develop material take-offs and cost estimates. Your work will require a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices, as you will be involved in diverse and complex engineering projects. You will also interact with public agencies, consultants, and contractors to ensure compliance with Commonwealth standards and objectives. Supervision and technical guidance will be provided by a supervisor who will assign tasks and review your work for engineering soundness, project goal attainment, and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering duties related to the design and construction of fish culture stations and related activities.
  • Conduct preliminary engineering studies and location investigations.
  • Prepare plans and specifications for various civil engineering projects.
  • Apply for necessary permits and develop material take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with Commonwealth standards and objectives through collaboration with public agencies, consultants, and contractors.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program; or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate; or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, an Engineer-in-Training certificate, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a related discipline; or
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
