About the position

AECOM is seeking out a well qualified and motivated Highway / Roadway Civil Engineer with a background in highway and roadway design for a great role in our Colorado Springs, CO office. The role involves engaging with the local team for the design of interchanges, highways, and urban corridors, performing specific and moderate portions of broader project assignments, gathering and correlating basic engineering data, and working on detailed or routine engineering assignments. The engineer will propose approaches to solve new problems, follow and direct internal quality processes, provide guidance and mentorship for entry-level engineers, and perform work in accordance with agreed-upon budgets and schedules with little supervision. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

Responsibilities

  • Engages with local team for design of interchanges, highways, and urban corridors.
  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader project assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple designs and tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Follows and directs internal quality process and identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship for entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering design projects.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering + 6-10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience with design software including MicroStation and OpenRoads.
  • Familiar with MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Experience designing highway/roadway systems.
  • Previous design experience on transportation projects including Schematic Development and Preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
  • Experience with Business Development/Client Relations.
