About the position

The Civil Engineer (Hydraulic) position with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) focuses on dam safety in Southeast Pennsylvania. The role involves a mix of field and office work, where the engineer will conduct technical analysis, inspections, and compliance monitoring to prevent dam failures and protect the community. This position is integral to ensuring the safety of dams and waterways, contributing to the overall mission of safeguarding lives and property.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a Project Specialist within the Field Engineering Section of the Division of Dam Safety.
  • Conduct advanced civil engineering tasks focusing on hydrology and hydraulics.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act and related regulations.
  • Perform inspections and technical analyses of dams and waterway management.
  • Prepare and review permit applications related to dam safety and water obstructions.

Requirements

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate, or
  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program, or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology, or
  • One year of civil engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in hydraulic engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of the Clean Streams Law and Flood Plain Management Act.
