About the position

The Civil Engineer I position is an entry-level role designed for recent engineering graduates and students. This position is part of the professional Civil Engineer series and involves performing routine professional engineering work related to the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects. The role includes assisting in the preparation of designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports, as well as performing other related duties as required. Given the nature of civil engineering projects, some positions may require overtime work, which could include weekends, holidays, and after-hours commitments. Currently, there are five vacancies available across various departments, including four with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, one in the Capital Projects Division - Design Branch, and three in the Water Resources Division - Project Review and Long Range Planning Branch. Additionally, there is one vacancy with the Department of Environmental Services, specifically in the Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division. Candidates who qualify for the position will have their names established on an eligible list for further consideration, which may be used to fill current and future vacancies in this and/or other departments. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine professional engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible for unrestricted employment under federal law.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license (automobile/Type 3) is required.
  • Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States.
