The Geotechnical Section at the Agency of Transportation is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic geotechnical engineer to join our team in Berlin, VT. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a variety of transportation infrastructure projects, from initial scoping through to construction. As a geotechnical engineer, you will collaborate closely with teams in Structures, Roadway, Construction, and Maintenance, ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of safety and efficiency. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and inspecting subsurface investigations, performing engineering soils testing and analyses, and developing recommendations for bridge and pavement foundations, retaining walls, and landslide repairs. Your major job duties will include sampling and logging of borings in the field, conducting site reconnaissance activities, performing laboratory testing of soils, and overseeing field inspections of geotechnical items on construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, and be comfortable spending time in both field and office environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for success in this position. This position reports to the Construction and Materials Bureau Headquarters in Berlin, VT, and offers the possibility of some remote work. We encourage college seniors in their final year of a bachelor's degree program in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or a related technical field to apply.
