About the position
The City of Orlando is seeking a Civil Engineer for various phases of a computerized traffic control system operations center. The role involves implementing and modifying signal timing plans for traffic systems, conducting field investigations, and collaborating with maintenance and consulting teams to ensure effective traffic signal operations.
Responsibilities
- Implement and modify signal timing plans for traffic systems controlled by the city.
- Perform modifications and upgrades to traffic signal controller databases using system software.
- Conduct field investigations of traffic conditions associated with traffic signals.
- Adjust traffic signal timing plans in response to regular schedules and citizen inquiries.
- Collaborate with the Traffic Signal Maintenance section to update traffic signal timing plans when hardware changes occur.
- Work with regional traffic signal timing consultants on annual corridor re-timing projects.
- Coordinate with FDOT's Signal Timing Group for timing plans and database updates.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering for Civil Engineer I, with six months of experience in Transportation Engineering required.
- Two years of experience for Civil Engineer II, with the same educational background.
- Four years of experience for Civil Engineer III, including at least two years in transportation development review, traffic studies, or crash data analysis.
- Registration as P.E. in the State of Florida required for Civil Engineer IV.
Nice-to-haves
- One year of supervisory experience for Civil Engineer III.
