The successful candidate will work on various projects across Kauai, HI, contributing to the development and maintenance of infrastructure that supports the community's needs. In this role, the engineer will be expected to apply their knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices, including engineering mathematics, mechanics, and surveying. The position requires the ability to perform engineering drafting and simple design work, interpret plans and specifications, and prepare maps and profiles. The Civil Engineer I will also be involved in plotting survey notes and cross-sections, ensuring that all engineering tasks are completed accurately and on time. Candidates must meet specific qualifications, including a combination of education and experience equivalent to a baccalaureate degree in engineering. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is also required at the time of appointment. The position may require passing an appropriate examination and meeting health and physical condition standards necessary for performing essential job functions. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine professional engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects.
  • Assist in preparing designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports.
  • Conduct engineering drafting and simple design work.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and land descriptions.
  • Plot survey notes and prepare maps, plans, profiles, and cross-sections.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in engineering.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license at the time of appointment.
  • Knowledge of general civil engineering principles and practices, engineering mathematics, and mechanics.
  • Ability to perform engineering drafting and simple design work.

  • Experience with topographic surveying and structural engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and sanitary engineering practices.
