About the position

Join our team in executing wastewater projects that protect public health and safety and the environment in the City and County of Honolulu! The Department of Environmental Services, Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division, Construction Management Branch, is looking for a Civil Engineer II to assist higher graded engineers in organizing, coordinating and directing all technical and administrative activities of simple wastewater projects. As a Civil Engineer II, your duties and responsibilities will include assisting higher grade engineers in administering simple and moderate wastewater construction contracts. You will also assist in reviewing the materials incorporated into the project for compliance, maintaining documentation relating to approved materials, certification submittals, and shop drawings incorporated into the project. Additionally, you will interpret plans and specifications for simple projects and assist in interpreting plans and specifications for moderate projects. This role may also involve performing other related duties as required. If you qualify for the position, your name will be established to an eligible list. This list may be used to fill current and/or future vacancies in this and/or other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist higher grade engineers in administering simple and moderate wastewater construction contracts.
  • Review materials incorporated into the project for compliance.
  • Maintain documentation relating to approved materials, certification submittals, and shop drawings incorporated into the project.
  • Interpret plans and specifications for simple projects and assist in interpreting plans and specifications for moderate projects.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty.
  • One (1) year of non-registered professional civil engineering experience.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license (Type 3), as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university (substitutes for one year of experience).
