Committed to enhancing mobility and connectivity, DOT is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining a resilient multi-modal transportation system that allows for the safe, efficient, inclusive, and reliable movement for all users, including biking, walking, scooters, rail, air, and public transportation. The Civil Engineer II will be responsible for planning, designing, bidding, and construction management of key transportation safety projects. This position is ideal for an engineer with 2+ years of experience that is organized, a self-starter, critical thinker and able to demonstrate the practical application of project management utilizing design skills in the regulatory setting. In this capacity, the candidate will be shaping the City's mobility and transportation safety priorities. The position is part of a career ladder for advancement to Civil Engineer III and IV after designated milestones are met.

Responsibilities

  • Provides project management for major road improvement projects.
  • Coordinates design projects with other agencies.
  • Performs actual designs such as roadways, pumping stations, master main upgrades, and guardrails.
  • Investigates and recommends solutions to construction field problems.
  • Administers, researches, and designs engineering and construction projects.
  • Designs small to medium traffic engineering projects including traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, pavement markings, and sidewalk modifications.
  • Engineers the City's traffic signal network by conducting on-site evaluations and preparing traffic signal designs.
  • Manages the budget and prepares drawings and specifications for contractors to repair damaged pole foundations and underground conduits.
  • Performs data collection, data compilation, and traffic analyses.
  • Performs site plan reviews in accordance with City code and traffic engineering principles.
  • Coordinates independently with City departments, engineers, contractors, inspectors, citizens/stakeholders, private utility companies, and state/federal agencies on transportation projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or traffic engineering or relevant field.
  • 2 years of experience in civil or traffic engineering.
  • Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification or equivalent required.

Nice-to-haves

  • AutoCAD skill preferred.
  • GIS skills preferred.
