About the position

Merrick & Company is seeking a Civil Engineer II to join our Surface Water/Stormwater Engineering Infrastructure team. This position will be based in one of our locations in Denver, Colorado Springs, Greenwood Village, or Loveland, CO, and will involve some travel to other Merrick offices to support our growing practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing assignments related to the analysis and design of river, drainageway, and urban stormwater systems. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply Merrick's procedures effectively. In this position, you will prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, and other work products. You will also perform design tasks, prepare bid documents including drawings and specifications, and organize all project deliverables under the supervision of project engineers, managers, and senior staff. The ideal candidate will be capable of making sound engineering decisions and exercising initiative and judgment appropriate to the responsibilities of the role. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effectively interfacing with clients and local, state, and federal government agencies. You will also be expected to lead project progress meetings, make project presentations, and provide clear written communications. Additional duties may include project management responsibilities, and field/construction activities may be required. Some travel may be necessary to fulfill the job requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments in the analysis and design of river, drainageway, and urban stormwater systems.
  • Prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, and work products.
  • Perform design tasks and prepare bid documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Organize all drawings, reports, calculations, and associated project deliverables with supervision from project engineers, managers, and senior staff.
  • Become knowledgeable of Merrick procedures and apply them when required.
  • Make sound engineering decisions and exercise initiative and judgment appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Interface effectively with clients and local, state, and federal government agencies.
  • Lead project progress meetings and make project presentations.
  • Provide clear written communications.
  • Manage projects as needed and participate in field/construction activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Four (4) to eight (8) years minimum experience in planning, design, and construction oversight of surface water and urban stormwater systems, or in land development, or related field of civil engineering.
  • Public works design experience with local, state, and federal governments is beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record, insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Open channel hydraulics and HEC-RAS experience desired.
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS Systems preferred.
  • Kayak, surfacing, and rafting experience beneficial to support our specialized whitewater recreation team.
