The Civil Engineer III position involves performing moderately difficult professional engineering work related to the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects. This position is available in multiple departments within the City and County of Honolulu, including one vacancy with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply and two vacancies with the Department of Environmental Services. The Environmental Quality Division offers telecommuting and alternate schedule opportunities, providing flexibility in work arrangements. Candidates who qualify for the position will have their names established on an eligible list, which may be utilized to fill current and future vacancies across various departments. The job is full-time and permanent, with a salary range of $5,784.00 to $8,234.00 monthly, depending on applicable experience. Responsibilities

  • Perform design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports.
  • Supervise construction and inspection activities.
  • Analyze stresses and determine required foundations and structural features.
  • Prepare engineering and inspection reports.
  • Supervise a small group of subordinate professional or subprofessional employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty from a regionally-accredited college or university.
  • Two years of non-registered professional civil engineering experience post-bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices, engineering mathematics, and mechanics of materials.
  • Ability to perform civil engineering design work and supervise construction activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university (substitutes for one year of experience).
