About the position

The Geotechnical Section at the Agency of Transportation is seeking a dedicated and skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Berlin, VT. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of transportation infrastructure projects, from initial scoping through to construction. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will collaborate closely with teams in Structures, Roadway, Construction, and Maintenance, ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of safety and efficiency. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and inspecting subsurface investigations, performing engineering soils testing and analyses, and developing recommendations for bridge and pavement foundations, retaining walls, and landslide repairs. Your work will involve field activities such as sampling and logging of borings, conducting site reconnaissance, and performing laboratory testing of soils. You will also engage in geotechnical design and field inspections of geotechnical items on construction projects, ensuring that all work complies with established engineering standards. The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position will report to the Construction and Materials Bureau Headquarters in Berlin, VT, and offers the possibility of some remote work, providing a balanced work environment that includes both field and office settings.

Responsibilities

  • Sampling and logging of borings in the field

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND four (4) years of engineering experience
  • OR Associates degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND six (6) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern
