The Civil Engineer III will carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved civil engineering techniques or procedures to create new or refined equipment, materials, processes, or methods. This role involves leadership and direction, where the engineer will receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. The engineer will independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields, while also reviewing work produced by staff for quality assurance. In terms of operational responsibilities, the Civil Engineer III will review and interpret zoning regulations in various municipalities, assist project teams with obtaining local and state permits for land development projects, and conceptualize the initial civil design approach for assigned phases of land/site development. The engineer will serve as a lead in the technical direction over less experienced engineers, provide technical assistance in resolving design problems, and make design recommendations and modifications. The role also includes planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of assigned project work, creating design work using computer-aided or manual drafting techniques, and preparing reports and correspondence concerning project direction. Field investigations, constructability reviews, and the preparation of technical specifications and contract documents are also key components of this position.
