About the position

The Civil Engineer III position at Bowman in Sunrise, FL, involves carrying out complex assignments that require the development of new or improved civil engineering techniques. The role emphasizes leadership, technical direction, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. The engineer will be responsible for reviewing work, assisting in marketing efforts, and providing technical assistance on land development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives and critical issues.
  • Independently apply extensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
  • Assist with marketing the firm's capabilities to establish new clients.
  • Work with senior engineers, clients, and agencies on complex project issues.
  • Review and interpret zoning regulations in various municipalities.
  • Assist project team with obtaining local and state permits for land development projects.
  • Conceptualize the initial civil design approach for assigned phases of land/site development.
  • Serve as a lead in the technical direction over less experienced engineers.
  • Provide technical assistance in the resolution of design problems.
  • Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
  • Create design work using computer-aided or manual drafting techniques.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning project direction.
  • Perform field investigations or inspections.
  • Conduct constructability reviews or assist in design/plan/review of other projects.
  • Review plans and prepare/review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field required at time of hire.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in the land development industry.
  • Land Development engineering experience and skills; large- and small-scale drainage and BMP design preferred.
  • Experience with civil engineering design software such as Civil3D.
  • Proficiency with reading construction plans.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, AES, CIVILD, WSPGW, PCSWMM, StormCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS preferred.
  • Proficient with Storm Drain Modeling and Rational Method Hydrologic Calculations.
  • Proficient with Open Channel & Detention Basin Modeling and Design.
  • Experience researching zoning, development standards, and compliance matters.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Projects).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HEC-RAS modeling and CLOMR/LOMR applications and processing.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate on multiple projects.
