About the position

Merrick & Company is seeking a Civil Water/Wastewater Engineer III to join our Water Group in Greenwood Village, Colorado. This position requires a professional with substantial experience in the design and construction oversight of water and wastewater infrastructure. The successful candidate will perform assignments that involve the analysis and design of water and wastewater systems, ensuring that all work meets the required standards and specifications. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, and other work products. You will also provide construction support and oversight, which includes administration and limited inspection duties. This position requires you to review designs by others for conformance to design standards and to support municipal water and sewer operations and maintenance. You must be capable of performing independent design tasks, preparing bid documents, and organizing all project deliverables after receiving initial instructions from the project manager, while working under limited supervision. Additionally, you will need to become knowledgeable about Merrick's procedures and apply them as necessary. The ideal candidate will possess strong decision-making skills, initiative, and judgment that align with the responsibilities of the position. Good interpersonal skills are essential for effectively interfacing with clients and local, state, and federal government agencies. You will also be expected to lead project progress meetings, make project presentations, and provide clear written communications. There may be additional duties involving project management for various projects, and some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments in the analysis and design of water and wastewater systems.
  • Prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, and work products.
  • Provide construction support and oversight including administration and limited inspection.
  • Review designs by others for conformance to design standards.
  • Support municipal water and sewer operations and maintenance.
  • Perform independent design tasks and prepare bid documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Organize all drawings, reports, calculations, and associated project deliverables after receiving initial instructions from the project manager.
  • Become knowledgeable of Merrick procedures and apply them when required.
  • Make sound engineering decisions and exercise initiative and judgment.
  • Interface effectively with clients and government agencies, lead project progress meetings, and provide clear written communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an A.B.E.T. Accredited School; Master's degree preferred.
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) certification in any state with the ability to obtain licensure in Colorado within 6 months.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the design and construction oversight of water and/or wastewater systems.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Colorado Water Distribution System Operator license and/or a Colorado Wastewater Collections System Operator license.
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with Water/Sanitary Sewer modeling.
  • Experience with BioWin Modeling.
  • Experience with GIS Systems and Programs.
  • Public works design experience with local, State, and Federal governments.
  • Local candidates preferred.
