About the position

In this position, you will work closely with the Transit/Rail and Ports/Marine groups, engaging in various civil engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include assigning, tracking, and reviewing tasks of technicians or designers, ensuring that all work adheres to established procedures and quality standards. You will gather and correlate engineering data, perform detailed calculations, and prepare reports and construction plans. Your role will require you to manage multiple tasks efficiently, ensuring timely completion while maintaining high-quality standards. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers, fostering their professional development. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work with multi-discipline design teams, coordinating the preparation of deliverables such as studies, reports, drawings, and cost estimates. Attending project meetings and documenting decisions will be essential to keep the project on track and ensure clear communication among team members and clients. Responsibilities

  • Work within the Transit/Rail and Ports/Marine groups on the planning and design of civil engineering projects
  • Assign, track, and review tasks of technicians or designers; apply technical discretion to the first revision of technician work product
  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures
  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and reports
  • Perform work by agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision
  • Manage the timely completion of multiple assigned tasks
  • Independently perform all tasks necessary to complete the primary design elements for engineering works
  • Follow and direct the internal quality process and identify discrepancies in results
  • Provide guidance and mentorship for entry-level engineers
  • Prepare reports, construction plans, and technical specifications
  • Collaborate with design teams consisting of multi-discipline design engineers, technicians, and planners
  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team members
  • Coordinate with project teams preparing various deliverables such as studies, reports, drawings, cost estimates, design analyses, and supporting documentation
  • Attend project meetings, both internal and with clients, and document decisions and actions needed along with responsibilities
  • Prepare presentation materials for client meetings, agendas, and minutes
  • Support business development efforts such as tracking RFQ's/RFP's announcements and marketing efforts associated with responding to RFQ's/RFP's.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Civil Engineering or related field and 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience with MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project)
  • Experience with AutoCAD

Nice-to-haves

  • MS Civil Engineering or related field
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within the first year of employment
  • Previous design experience on transportation projects including schematic development and preparation of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E)
  • Experience with Open Roads, InRoads and/or MicroStation software
  • Experience planning and organizing tasks and teams
  • Experience with business development/client relations
