About the position

As a Civil Engineer Intern at Black & Veatch, you will be part of a dynamic Summer Internship Program designed to provide students with valuable experience in a professional working environment. This internship offers meaningful work assignments that will allow you to apply your academic knowledge in real-world scenarios. You will be introduced to the corporate culture of Black & Veatch, which emphasizes employee ownership and empowerment, and you will have the opportunity to network with experienced executives and leaders in the field. The position is available in either Overland Park, KS, or Arlington, VA, and can be performed in a hybrid capacity, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work. In this role, you will engage in various tasks that support engineering analyses, report production, and design processes. You will develop, evaluate, and design specifications and contract drawings, prepare basic calculations, assist in equipment selection, and coordinate with other engineering disciplines. Additionally, you will be responsible for scheduling project deliverables, collecting and organizing data, and analyzing systems using computer modeling techniques. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients, while also honing your skills in a supportive and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and design specifications and contract drawings
  • Perform a variety of tasks to support engineering analyses, report production, and designs
  • Prepare basic calculations

  • Collect, organize, and evaluate data

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an ABET accredited university in Civil Engineering program with emphasis in Structural, Environmental, Transportation, or Geotechnical
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background checks and drug screening
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
