About the position

WSP USA is offering a Civil Engineering Internship for the Summer of 2025, aimed at providing students with hands-on experience in the field of civil engineering. This internship is part of a nationally recognized Top 100 Intern Program, which allows interns to work closely with senior staff on real projects, enhancing their education and professional skills. The internship will take place in the Tacoma office, with the possibility of considering candidates for the San Diego, CA location as well. The program is designed for individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in civil engineering or a related field. The internship is scheduled to last for 12 weeks, starting on May 19th, 2025, although the start date may be flexible depending on individual circumstances. Interns will support a variety of engineering tasks aimed at developing their technical, social, and ethical skills. Responsibilities will include learning the basic principles of civil engineering, assisting with project research, fieldwork, and preliminary design calculations and analysis. Interns will also support the preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates, as well as assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation. Training on assigned tasks will be provided, and interns are expected to exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on business needs. This internship does not offer relocation or housing assistance, and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States at the start of the internship. Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Civil Engineering.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
  • Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering or related field with a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
