About the position

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a junior level civil engineer to assist in the planning, design and plan production for general civil engineering on a wide variety of projects which may include site civil design, rough & precise grading, dredging, drainage design, utility design (sewer, water, & storm drain). The successful new hire may be seated in either of the listed offices. As a junior civil engineer, you will assist and support designs and construction projects by studying project concepts, architectural drawings, and models. You will be involved in the preparation of engineering designs by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data. Your role will also include creating feasibility studies by analyzing engineering designs, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data. You will prepare design documents and reports for civil site development, which includes site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems. Performing calculations, preparing cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications, and writing reports will be part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will assist in the production of engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules, and may perform limited field observations in support of construction and data collection. There may also be opportunities to assist in the training of junior staff and guide designers.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Engineer in Training certification preferred
  • 2 to 4 years of experience as a civil engineer, preferably with experience in site layout, stormwater, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • MicroStation and experience in stormwater modeling using WaterCAD or SWMM software is desired

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with environmental impact studies
  • Familiarity with construction specifications and plans
