About the position

The Civil Engineer - Land Development at Larson Design Group (LDG) plays a crucial role as a technical leader within the firm. This position requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license and significant work experience in the field. The engineer will coordinate overall design activities and project submission schedules, ensuring that all deliverables meet the technical requirements and goals set by clients. The role emphasizes the importance of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) processes to enhance the quality of deliverables and minimize design errors and omissions. In this position, the engineer will perform independent planning and design tasks, review the work of others, and prepare construction documents. The successful candidate will have experience with technically complex projects and a solid understanding of the codes and standards applicable to the design of such projects. Collaboration is key, as the engineer will maintain inter-departmental and cross-functional working relationships with project team members, assisting senior management in developing schedules, technical proposals, and labor hour estimates. The engineer will also be responsible for performing initial QA/QC reviews of project submissions and will work closely with project teams to effectively describe and deliver the scope of work. This role requires proficiency in performing and checking design calculations, technical specifications, and preparing cost estimates, ensuring that all aspects of the project are thoroughly vetted and executed to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performs independent planning and design tasks, reviews work of others, prepares construction documents, and successfully delivers projects to completion.
  • Has experience with technically complex projects.
  • Possesses knowledge of codes and standards applicable to design of projects.
  • Maintains collaborative inter-departmental and cross functional working relationships with members of the project team.
  • Performs initial QA/QC review of project submissions.
  • Assists senior management in development of schedules, technical proposals, and labor hour estimates.
  • Works closely with project teams to effectively describe and deliver scope of work.
  • Promotes, utilizes, and supports quality assurance and quality control processes to improve the quality of deliverables and reduce design errors & omissions.
  • Performs and checks design calculations, technical specifications, and prepares cost estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant Engineering field from an ABET accredited school, Landscape Architecture, or related field of study.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' job-related experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Thorough knowledge of A/E/S industry and the ability to quickly review, understand, and resolve complex design and construction related issues.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or Hydrologic and Hydraulic Software Packages for Site Layout, Grading, Utility, and Storm Water Management Plan design.
