About the position

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a licensed professional engineer to join the Project Development Division within the Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands. This position is ideal for those looking to transition from the private sector to a role that offers a better work-life balance. As a Civil Engineer Manager specializing in hydraulic projects, you will take on the responsibilities of a Project Coordinator, overseeing and organizing the work of junior engineers involved in the planning, creation, and implementation of flood protection initiatives. These projects will include a variety of permanent hydraulic structures such as levees, open channels, culverts, dams, energy dissipaters, and debris basins, among other components. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that detailed contract plans and specifications are generated efficiently and cost-effectively, aligning with the project's goals. You will supervise a team of engineers, coordinating all aspects of the projects to ensure successful completion. This role not only requires technical expertise but also strong leadership and organizational skills to manage the workflow and ensure that all project components are executed effectively. The position offers full-time employment with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, including a 60-minute lunch break. There may be occasional travel for conferences, training, and off-site meetings. Additionally, there is an opportunity for part-time telework, allowing you to work from home up to three days a week, provided you have a secure high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location within Pennsylvania. If telework is not feasible, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and organize the work of junior engineers involved in flood protection initiatives.
  • Plan, create, and implement hydraulic structures such as levees, open channels, and dams.
  • Generate detailed contract plans and specifications for projects.
  • Coordinate all aspects of projects to ensure successful completion.
  • Supervise a team of engineers and ensure effective communication and workflow.

Requirements

  • Four years of professional civil engineering experience, including three years in the appropriate specialty and one year of experience directing the work of civil engineers.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • Possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
