About the position

The Civil Engineer, Mid-level position at Cobec Consulting involves providing experienced civil engineering support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) within the Western Service Areas. This role is crucial for the development and execution of civil works projects, which include buildings, equipment shelters, communication centers, and various site layouts. The successful candidate will be expected to create detailed plans, drawings, and specifications using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary standards and requirements. In this position, the engineer will conduct site investigations to assess the feasibility of proposed projects and resolve any civil or site design issues that may arise. The role requires a strong understanding of civil and structural requirements, as well as the ability to prepare comprehensive specifications and cost estimates. The engineer will also be responsible for evaluating engineering plans, conducting surveys, and ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and contract documents. Responsibilities

  • Create required plans, drawings and specifications using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software.
  • Develop civil/site design drawings, calculations, cost estimates, reports, and specifications for civil works projects.
  • Conduct and/or direct site investigations of project sites to determine feasibility of proposed projects or solutions to site problems.
  • Resolve specific civil/site design or construction problems with customers.
  • Conceptualize, design, and develop civil and structural requirements for new facilities and modernization of existing facilities.
  • Direct surveys and investigations at project sites to determine facility conditions and secure necessary data for design.
  • Evaluate engineering plans and design objectives, conducting surveys to establish necessary data for engineering designs.
  • Review designs for constructability and drafting specifications, determining construction sequencing and preparing cost estimates.
  • Plan and monitor small to large scale facilities engineering projects to ensure compliance with objectives and standards.
  • Review contractor/manufacturer shop drawings and equipment submittals for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Assess construction projects for quality assurance and compliance with contract documents and building codes.
  • Negotiate contract modifications and review construction contracts for legal compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required; Master's degree is a plus and may count as additional experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience providing civil engineering support, with specific experience within the FAA or FAA Technical Operations preferred.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of directly applicable civil-site design experience.
  • Proficiency in using CADD software and various hydrologic and hydraulic modeling & design programs such as Hydraflow and ICPR.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple programs.
  • Experience interacting with senior external personnel on significant technical matters.
