About the position

As a Senior Seismic Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company, you will be part of an innovative team dedicated to providing clean energy solutions. This role involves supporting civil and structural design activities, particularly focusing on the evaluation of soil-structure interaction effects and the characterization of dynamic soil properties. You will address technical issues related to the seismic analysis of building structures, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary safety and quality standards. Additionally, you will tackle technical challenges that arise during the fabrication, assembly, and construction phases of civil and structural projects, which may include providing technical justifications for design changes and troubleshooting emergent issues as they arise. Your responsibilities will also include on-site support at various utilities and smaller projects as required. You will utilize analytical tools such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, GTSTRUDL, and SASSI to perform your analyses. Maintaining software compliance records and closing engineering corrective actions will be part of your duties, as well as becoming familiar with applicable industry civil and structural codes and standards, including ACI, AISC, ASCE, and AWS, along with company policies and procedures. Furthermore, you will develop engineering sketches and markups using AutoCAD or similar CAD programs, contributing to the overall design and implementation of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support civil/structural design activities including evaluation of soil-structure-interaction effects and characterization of dynamic soil properties.
  • Address technical issues related to seismic analysis of building structures.
  • Resolve technical issues related to the fabrication, assembly, and construction phases of civil/structural projects, including technical justification of design changes.
  • Provide on-site support at various utilities and smaller projects when required.
  • Utilize analytical tools such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, GTSTRUDL, and SASSI for seismic analysis.
  • Aid in the maintenance of software compliance records and closure of engineering corrective actions.
  • Familiarize with applicable industry civil/structural codes and standards (ACI, AISC, ASCE, AWS) and company policies and procedures.
  • Develop engineering sketches and markups using AutoCAD or similar CAD programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • 4-10 years of experience in civil or structural engineering.
  • FE/EIT certification strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in seismic analysis and soil-structure-interaction analysis is preferred.
  • PE certification or a plan to obtain PE is preferred.
  • Prior industry experience in the nuclear industry is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with seismic analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry standards and practices.
